Through our longest-running service program, we reach out to elderly and homeless populations with radio plays, just as they aired over 50 years ago – complete with sound effects, commercial interruptions, and live music from days gone by. We invite seniors to participate, and we stick around after every performance to spend time with our audience, chatting with them and listening to their stories.
We visit senior centers and nursing homes in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, returning to the same places to foster ongoing relationships with the residents. We've also established a partnership with Project FIND, an organization dedicated to helping low-income and homeless elderly to live more vital and independent lives in the community, and we bring our radio plays to their centers at no cost.
If you're interested in volunteering at a radio play, check out our calendar. Non-performers are welcome too, to help with sound effects, take pictures, or just talk to the old folks!
